Suspended Ceiling Solutions

Q: How can I improve the looks of a suspended ceiling in our bathroom? There are several pipes and wires running below the joists, so simple drywall isn’t possible. The existing ceiling is made of translucent panels that aren’t very attractive. It makes me feel like I'm still at the office. Is there some other type of suspended ceiling that can cover the pipes yet also look residential?

A: You're right about suspended ceilings. They do have a definite "office look" that’s often way out of place in a home. But the good news is that you don’t have to rule out drywall. By stripping off the old ceiling and extending the existing joists down below the pipes and wires, you'll be able to install drywall as usual. This is a practical and good-looking approach.
