Selecting the right deadbolt

Question: I have just built a new home and need to purchase several deadbolts. To me they all look the same. How can I prevent myself from purchasing an inferior product?

Fourchalk: When purchasing a deadbolt, don't be fooled by the price. Cheaper is not better. You can purchase a deadbolt inexpensively, but be careful of what your are getting.

Take the deadbolt out of the package and feel the weight. You can get an idea of the quality and strength by the weight. Some of the things to look for are a solid brass body, free-spin collar, pick-resistant cylinder, saw-resistant bolt and steel shrouds that cover the bolt's extension.
