Fixing Wiggly Chairs

Q: Do you have any words of wisdom to help me repair wiggly wooden kitchen chairs? Many of mine required constant attention.

A: Yes, I can suggest something that works very well, but it’s more of a product recommendation than a technique. Over the years I’ve repaired many chairs with a product called Chair Doctor from Lee Valley Tools (800-267-8767) and it does a terrific job. I’ve never seen anything else like it from other suppliers. It's a low viscosity white liquid applied to loose joints while they're still together. The liquid wicks into the joint as you wiggle it, swells the wood and locks it that way. I know from many years of personal experience that Chair Doctor is just what the doctor ordered.
