Better Tasting Water
Q: How can I remove chlorine from the municipal water supply that feeds our house? I’ve checked all the home improvement outlets and haven’t found anything. I want to remove chlorine from the water we drink and bathe in.
A: For the last seven years I've had personal experience with a water filter that will remove chlorine as well as other substances that cause poor taste and health concerns. The item is called a carbon filter, and various manufacturers offer them. Ours was recommended and installed by a water specialist in our area. The device is a cylindrical tank that's about four feet high, filled with granulated particles of charcoal. As water passes through the filter it's forced to travel up through the whole column of carbon. And as it does this, many substances are removed and retained by the carbon. What you’re left with is excellent water that tastes terrific. This system is very effective at treating all water that's used in the entire house. We have the carbon replaced every two or three years at a cost of about $125 plus service charges. The very best carbon is called "coconut carbon" and you should ask for it when it comes time for replacement. I know that this system will work well for you.
