Unmonitored alarm system?

Question: My husband and I would like to have a security system installed. He says that we cannot have a system installed unless we sign a monitoring contract. Is this true?

Fourchalk: No, that is not true! Many companies offer you the option of monitored or unmonitored alarm systems. My advice to you is to shop around and get three or four quotes before making any decision. Keep in mind that if you travel, or are away from home for extended periods of time, monitoring is advisable.
